The Hour Drive

Updated: 3 days ago

“The Hour Drive”

When I first began my new job, I dreaded the hour drive.

The different flows of traffic made me irritable. I cannot deny.

After a few days on the job, I was involved in a three-car accident.

You see, I’m a country boy, and I was not used to the Memphis city movement.

Although I felt a sense of divine purpose working there, the thing I hated most was the dreaded hour drive.

I had such a hate for the dreaded hour drive, that I listened to different media outlets to lessen the stress.

Music, podcasts, audiobooks.

Man, I was all set.

Until a few days ago, none of the aforementioned could quiet the stress except quietness itself.

The entire hour with nothing but stillness.

In the quiet, my father reminded me that He is with me;

He reassured me that I was in the right place;

He realigned me mentally, and refocused my mind on my purpose, his plan.

In my meditation, I’ve come to understand that the hour drive does not have to be dreaded at all.

My hour drive should be treasured as the gift that my father intended it to be,

A daily opportunity,

An hour of contemplative and centering prayer, just Him and me,

An hour drive when I am able to hear Him in me.
