In this life there are many things that people take delight in. Today, I want to share with you one of the greatest joys that I experience on a regular basis. One of the greatest joys that I have experience is when I come home from a day’s work. Whenever I come home after a day’s work, I am immediately bomb rushed by my sons with hugs and smiles on their faces. This is one of the greatest joys of my life, and it’s something that I’ll never forget. It is so precious to me how loving children are. My sons show their love by doing whatever it is they can to make their mom and I proud of them. They love us so much that they try their best to be as obedient as their childlike patience will allow. This speaks to the attitude of children. Children are filled with affection and love. They are filled with humility and forgiveness. Have you ever noticed how quickly children return to playful fun after an argument? That is because children are quick to forgive. There is so much that we adults can learn from children. Perhaps, this is why Jesus felt so strongly for children. In fact, St. Matthew18: 1-4 describes a day when the disciples were asking Jesus who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And that is when Jesus responded, “Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as a little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” This statement from Jesus was a warning concerning the importance of humility. Humility is an essential attribute that one must have in order to make it into heaven. Except one become as little children, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Humility is the exact opposite of pride. The bible constantly admonishes us to be humble. All through the scriptures we find where God uplifts those that are humble, but we also find where the same God brings the prideful man low. The bible tells us that God hates pride. Pride is what causes guilty men to act as if they have done nothing wrong. Pride is the cause of racism. Pride is the cause of sexism. Pride is the cause of classism. Pride is the cause of greed. Pride is what causes the rich man to turn his nose up at the poor man. Pride is what causes men to scandalize the names of their brothers. Pride is what causes man to covet things that do not belong to him. Pride is what causes men to be jealous of their brothers. Pride at its very essence is selfishness. Lastly, pride is what causes men to think that they don’t need Jesus. We must become as humble as a little child! We must be humble before our Heavenly Father and our fellow man. Be quick to forgive your brothers. Shower your heavenly father with love and affection. Don’t get so dignified that you can’t tell God thank you. Tell God thank you! For His mercies are new every morning. My brothers and sisters we must humble ourselves before God our Father. Just as a little child, we must be humble.
